The Hamta Circuit comprises of the picturesque Hamta Valley which leads to the Hamta Pass. This circuit was used by the people of Spiti to cross over to Manali for trade, cattle grazing, etc. This pass was also recommended by the local natives as the shortest way to reach Manali. It is said that the inhabitants of the Sethan village –the last village that we leave behind in Manali -were basically the people of Spiti Valley who settled there for a better trade opportunities. Flora & Fauna :
The variety of forests like sal, rhododendron, oak, fir, deodar, birch, and pines are the pride of this region. These forests shelter for large number of wild animal and birds. Wildlife, among which some rare species like the musk deer, ibex, thar, Himalayan brown bear and snow leopard are still found here.
Vast variety of birds can be spotted on this trail, from the Himalayan Griffin vultures soaring in the skies to colourful Finches to sparrows.
The summer months offer green meadows laden with various species of flowers and barriers. Scents of such beautiful flowers attract the Himalayan bees, which help in pollination across the Himalayan region.
