Mt. Menthosa (6443 m) is the 2nd highest peak in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, the first being Mulkila (6517 m) – 80 km further to the southeast. It was first climbed in 1970 by a British Service Team. Menthosa is situated in the Urgos Nallah, a tributary of the exceptionally beautiful Miyar Nallah. Urgos in Miyar is the roadhead for climbing this peak. We start from Manali and drive to Miyar Valley in Lahaul across Rohtang Pass / Atal Tunnel (approx. 8 hrs). From Urgos we turn northwest into the Urgos Nallah and reach Base Camp in just a day.
Menthosa is a great peak to climb for people looking to step up from easy trekking peaks to technical climbs in the heavily glaciated Himalayan mountains.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Manali
Arrive and check into your hotel. Full day in Manali to visit:

Hadimba Devi Temple (erected in 1553)

Old Manali and Mall Road (shopping & eating)
Overnight stay in a hotel at Manali.
Day 2 – Manali to Udaipur (2650 m)
Morning after breakfast, a scenic drive takes you through the Atal Tunnel into the forbidden land of Lahaul, where you encounter a different culture and landscape. Evening arrival at Udaipur. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 3 – Udaipur – Tingrit – Urgos (3250 m)
A 23 km drive from Udaipur to Urgos is exhilarating as you witness changing landscapes in a short distance. Approach to the base camp is through Miyar Valley, which has a rich cultural heritage. Upon reaching Urgos, move to camp for the night. This is the time to meet your cook, kitchen helper, porters, and trekking guide. Evening free for leisure. Overnight in tents.
Day 4 – Urgos to Base Camp (4200 m)
Morning after breakfast, hand over your bags and climbing equipment to the porters. The 7 km hike from Urgos to Menthosa Base Camp is a terrific hike – not too difficult, yet steep enough to warm you up for the climb. Magnificent views of surrounding peaks get prettier as you go higher. (Packed lunch provided en route.) The last 1000 m elevation gain will be a tough climb. Base camp will be set before you arrive. Overnight at base camp.
Day 5–11 – Base Camp: Establishing Higher Camps & Summit Attempt
From Day 5 to Day 11, establish higher camps (Advanced Base Camp, Camp 1, Summit Camp), load ferry, and attempt the peak.

Climbing guides will help open the route and make necessary arrangements after base camp.

You remain connected to base camp and the backup team via walkie‑talkie.

Weather updates are provided regularly.

The summit team makes the final decision.

From the summit, you get a panoramic view of Miyar Valley.
Day 12 – Base Camp → Urgos → Udaipur
Morning after breakfast, hand over your bags to the porters, leave base camp, and trek down to Urgos (hot lunch provided en route). At Urgos, the transport team will be waiting. After loading all luggage into cabs, drive to Udaipur. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 13 – Udaipur to Manali
Morning after breakfast, drive back to Manali. Upon arrival, check into a hotel for overnight stay.
